Depending on the type of power washing service(s) you book, there are various tasks you may want to complete before your service provider shows up. From smaller residential jobs like gutter cleaning or driveway cleaning to large commercial cleaning, you’ll want to consider these steps.
Residential Services
In any residential service, we’ll start by recommending leaving the driveway clear. Move any vehicles, toys, or breakable items that could be in the way or damaged by powerful water pressure. Oftentimes, pressure washers can take water from any nearby fire hydrants, so please avoid blocking these. If no hydrant is present, house water will often need to be tapped into. If you have any lights stuck into the ground lining your driveway that is being washed, there is also a possibility those will be in the “firing zone” and in danger of breaking, especially if they have glass panes.
Washing your patios or porches? We love a beautifully decorated porch or patio for a BBQ or fun night together, but you’ll need a bare surface for your power washing appointment. Please remove any pieces of furniture, rugs, smaller potted plants, etc. Be cautious of any wind chimes and hanging decor when your wash includes siding, gutters, and/or windows. This could also be the case for soft washing with roofs. No one wants to be responsible for the deaths of those beautiful hanging plants when the cleaner drips off the shingles.
Commercial Services
If there are any parking spaces directly next to the building, block off those spaces so that the pressure washers can get near the building with equipment. Both window washers and pressure washers will need the way to be cleared.
Send out ample warning to tenants/employees of the building. Coffee may be spilled, and meetings could get interrupted if water mysteriously gets sprayed out of nowhere.
Have someone on-site in case your pressure washing team needs assistance. The water main may be inaccessible without a key or hard to locate in general. A location manager could receive the invoice or provide clear instructions on areas that need not be washed. Communication is always vital with your contractors!
Overall
We suggest prepping your property before your pressure washing team shows up by clearing anywhere they will need to work. This will allow the team to get straight to work rather than being delayed asking your permission to move your belongings, taking the time to move them (where things could possibly get damaged or broken) and then getting to their work that matters most.
Lastly, don’t forget to think about the future! It is usually recommended to power wash your property at least once a year, but many people often want this to happen around the same time. To avoid scheduling conflicts and guarantee a fresh clean look when you want it, consider booking your next appointment when you’ve seen that your company completed the job to your satisfaction!
